Ordering twice, and what repetition joins together
A second order to the same recipient does something the first could not. It says that two separate moments belong to the same story.

Most of this catalogue is about what an observer learns from one event. This card is about what an observer learns from two, and the answer is a different category of thing entirely.
A single order is a point. It has a time, a place and an account attached, and beyond that it floats. A second order draws a line between two points, and a line has a direction, an interval and a shape. Nobody had to say anything for that line to appear.
What repetition adds
Set aside the content of either order. Simply having two of them produces the following, none of which existed after the first.
- That the same account was active on two dates, separated by a measurable interval.
- That the first transaction concluded in a way that did not stop a second. That is an outcome, inferred without anybody reporting it.
- A rhythm, once there are three or four. Weekly, monthly, seasonal, before or after some regular event in a life the observer cannot see.
- A relationship, in the plain sense that two parties who interact repeatedly are connected in a way that two parties who interacted once are not.
- A place that persists, if the address is the same. Persistence is a much stronger fact than a single instance.
The second item is the one readers usually miss. A repeat order is a signal about the previous order, sent unintentionally, and it is a signal the observer could not have obtained any other way.
How things get linked, in general terms
Linkage is not one mechanism. It is a family of them, and they operate independently, which is why removing one does not remove the others. What follows is a description of how the family works, not a set of instructions.

The exact rows join records with certainty. The suggestive rows raise a possibility in a reader's mind. The important structural point is that they combine: two suggestive signals pointing the same way behave more like an exact one, and an exact signal makes the suggestive ones unnecessary.
A new handle removes the first row and nothing else. That is why registering an account should be read as changing one variable rather than starting over.
What repetition does not establish
A pattern is a pattern. Here is what it is not.
- It does not identify anybody. Two orders to one place say a place recurs, not who lives at it.
- It does not prove one person. A shared account, a shared address or a household can generate a pattern that looks like an individual and is not, which is the situation in a shared delivery address.
- It does not prove one address means one home. A workplace, a building with many occupants and a collection point all repeat exactly the same way.
- It does not tell the vendor how many other relationships you have. They see their own history with you. The market server sees the rest.
- It does not survive misattribution. A person who confuses two accounts in memory has built a pattern out of two different people, and nothing corrects them.
- It does not have a threshold. There is no count at which something changes state. The signal gets gradually stronger, which is why it is easy to miss happening.
Where repetition shows up outside this branch
The same structure appears everywhere in the catalogue, with different observers holding the pattern. A network observer sees a repeated session shape, described in how long the session stays open. A postal operator sees repeated parcels to one place, described in a parcel entering the postal system. A device accumulates repeated traces on disk.
Repetition is the one thing that every observer in this catalogue is good at, because it requires no insight. It only requires keeping records and comparing them, which is what records are for.
What changes the answer
5 things change how much this action gives away. None of them takes it to zero, and none of them is a promise.

- The observer holding the pattern may be the platform, not the vendorA vendor sees repetition within one relationship. The platform sees repetition across all of them, which is a wider view of the same behaviour.
- Linkage can be wrong and still have effectsA human observer can connect two records that do not belong together. Being mistaken does not make the inference harmless to whoever it lands on.

This card is not guidance on how often to order, from whom, or how to avoid being linked. It sets out how repetition creates connections and what those connections do not prove.
Questions that come up
Does the vendor know it is me if I use a different account?
They may suspect it from an address, a key or a way of writing. Suspicion built from suggestive signals is not proof and can be wrong, and an exact signal such as a repeated address does not need suspicion at all.
Is one order safer than two?
This site does not rank actions as safe or unsafe. What it can say is that a single event carries no interval, no rhythm and no confirmation of an earlier outcome, and two events carry all three.
